Kind Words and An Invitation

I want to take a moment to share this beautiful recommendation letter from a parent of one of my former students. She wrote this when I left Denver last summer, and her kindness blew me away.

I was so deeply touched by her words, firstly because of the thoughtfulness of her words, but even more so because the thing that stuck out to her most about our time together is exactly what I try so hard to achieve for each of my students: a positive and encouraging atmosphere in lessons, with teaching tailored to what he/she is excited about the most with learning music. It's incredibly humbling to read that my efforts shined through enough to catch her attention, and I will be forever grateful to her for sharing this with me.

To Whom It May Concern,

It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of recommendation on behalf of Shannon DeBord. My son took piano lessons with Shannon beginning in December of 2017 until her move to Minnesota in May of 2018. Matthew, my son, was a beginning piano student. He had expressed an interest in learning the piano, and we had inherited a piano from my parents. I found Shannon on the website Nextdoor where another parent had recommended her.

Shannon was able to impart her enthusiasm and love of playing the piano onto my son. She listened to Matthew’s ideas about what he wanted to learn next and incorporate those into her lesson, all while still being sure to instruct him in the basic concepts. She allowed Matthew to express himself as 7-year-old boys tend to do, while also gently guiding him back to the lesson. Her consistent positivity and encouragement were very apparent. Shannon possesses that wonderful combination of musical talent, patience, and the ability to clearly communicate her goals to children.

I have taught fifth grade for 25 years, and Shannon stands out to me as a strong and caring teacher. I felt so lucky to find such a wonderful and talented person to introduce the piano to my son. I would encourage any parent to take advantage of an opportunity to have their children learn how to play and appreciate the piano from Shannon DeBord.

Sincerely,

Mrs. K.
