I always have mixed feelings as summer draws to an end. I love being outside, especially on the water, and the end of summer means the end of kayaking, paddle boarding, and picnics at the lake. But I also get excited, because the end of summer means the beginning of fall, and despite the lack of water sports, that is definitely my favorite season.
Here are my top 10 reasons why I love Fall:
1. Fall Color (Leaves)
Who doesn't love all those beautiful reds, yellows, oranges, and silvers? (in WI this is real, I swear! Google "silver maple" if you don't believe me!) One of my favorite things growing up was to take a drive with my family and look at the beautiful fall foliage. It helps that Wisconsin is pretty famous for its fall color, I suppose...
2. Halloween Movies
Because you can never get too excited about watching Hocus Pocus and It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. The hardest part is staying calm through the opening credits.
3. Carving Pumpkins
You don't have to be a master-carver to create a perfect jack-o-lantern! Good thing too, because my pumpkins always look a bit lopsided.
4. Apple Cider
Bonus points if you mull your own!
5. Corn Mazes
You are never too old to get lost in a corn maze. We have some really excellent ones around the Denver area - this one is over 15 acres! For me, corn mazes are best when haunted, which brings me to.....
6. Haunted Houses
Maybe you like getting scared, maybe you don't. Either way, there is no better way to get into the spirit of the season than to pay to have someone dress up and make you scream bloody murder in a dark hallway. (Pro Tip: convince your easily-scared friends to come with you for non-stop fun!)
7. Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins
The thing Jordan looks forward to most every fall! I have the best recipe, from an old roommate's mom...be jealous.
The favorite holiday for foodies everywhere! Spend all day making recipes you only get to use once a year, watch football while everything cooks, and then eat until you're too stuffed to move. There's probably a life lesson in self control in there somewhere, but I'm going to pretend eating to the brink of explosion is good for me.
9. Crisp, Cool Weather
Say what you will, but fall weather is special and unique from any other season's weather. Spring is fresh and new and lovely, but fall is something else entirely. There's nothing better than taking a walk in the brisk evening air in your hoodie, stepping on crunchy leaves, and sipping on a Pumpkin Spice Latte while you chat with your best friend.
10. Pumpkin Spice [Insert Something Edible Here]
Ah, the obligatory pumpkin spice _____. It's become an unavoidable (yet delicious) part of everyone's fall, from muffins, to donuts, to the classic latte that started it all. For those of us who dislike pumpkin pie (don't hate me!), it thankfully tastes nothing like that. For those who do like pumpkin pie....well, you probably just eat that.
